modeLab is the research entity of Studio Mode. It is conceived of as a laboratory and serves as a knowledge base for design research and experimentation. The laboratory is distributed in nature and operates across multiple time-scales and locations ranging from intensive workshops to design studios throughout North America and Europe.

Our primary objective is to discover novel and inventive design solutions through the identification of key concepts relevant to contemporary architectural discourse and the development of related maps of action.

micRo

Lumenlab Micro

Lumenlab’s micRo is a gantry robot; a gantry robot carries a tool in 3 dimensions. Gantry robots are used for high-tech manufacturing and art. Lumenlab’s micRo is a small gantry robot that can fit on your desk or workbench.

micRo is a modular manufacturing platform that accepts numerous tools:

_ Milling
_ Routing
_ 3D deposition printing
_ Plotting

Lumenlab hosts a strong community of DIY tinkerers and innovators. Lumenlab’s blog contains a shared gcode library and distributed manufacturing support site.
